Detentions during Chernobyl Way memorial march
Environmental activists Iryna Sukhiy, Vasil Siniukhin, Kanstantsin Kirylenka and Volha Konovalova were detained at about 6 p.m. at the apartment of Iryna Sukhiy, leader of the “Eka-Dom” NGO. All of them were eventually released from Pershamaiski police department at about 9 p.m.
Human rights defender Viachaslau Dashkievich was detained at about 7.40 p.m. near Savetski district police department.
Ihar Trukhanovich, activists of the anarchist movement, was detained near the house. He was badly beaten, then pushed into a Volkswagen and taken to Savetski district police department. He is currently awaiting trial in the detention center in Akrestsin Street.
Journalists of “Nasha Niva” Iryna Arakhouskaya and Aksana Rudovich were detained as they were filming the beating of Ihar Trukhanovich. They were also taken to Savetski district police department. The journalists were later released.
After the march was over at about 9.20 p.m., the police detained activists of the “European Belarus” movement Aliaksandr Tarnahurski and Dzmitry Charniak. Both are now awaiting trial in the detention center.
At about 9.45 p.m., the police detained Alena Vitko (later released), Yan Melnikau (later released), Inna Kazlouskaya (underaged, picked up by parents) and a girl named Nasta (last name unknown). All of them were taken to Savetski district police department.
At 10.30 p.m., security services detained journalists Radio Racyja Aliaksandr Yarashevich and Henadz Barbarych. Both were taken to Savetski district police department. They are now held in the detention center in Akrestsin Street.
