Homel journalist Anatol Hatouchyts summoned to Prosecutor’s Office
Anatol Hatouchyts, Homel leader of the Belarusian Association of Journalists, was summoned to the regional Prosecutor’s Office. Yesterday, he received a phone call from the senior assistant Prosecutor Dzmitry Deboi and invited to an interview. He explained that the Prosecutor’s Office possessed “evidence that on April 24 Hatouchyts prepared a video story for the satellite channel Belsat about the flood in Homel.”
The journalist said he was willing to come to the prosecutor, but only after receiving a subpoena. Asa result, he did receive the official paper and is expected to appear at 2 p.m. on May 24.
However, at the appointed time assistant Prosecutor Dzmitry Deboi was not found at his working place.
“Although I did not prepare this report, I have a question: why does not the Prosecutor’s Office protect the constitutional rights of citizens to disseminate and receive information? Moreover, this report was about a disaster and dealt with life and health, says the reporter.
