General Prosecutor's Office refused to abolish warning to Tamara Siarhei
On 23 April Deputy Prosecutor General
Aliaksandr exander Lashyn delivered an official warning to lawyer
Tamara Siarhei about criminal responsibility under Article 193.1 of
the Criminal Code for the organization of the activities of an
unregistered public association – Civil Initiative against
lawlessness in the courts and the prosecutor's office.
Tamara
Siarhei appealed the warning to the Prosecutor General. However, the
acting Prosecutor General, Mikalai Kuklis, refused to hold an
audience with her and upheld the official warning.
Tamara
Siarhei: "I consider this decision by the Prosecutor General as
unreasonable and unlawful because all my arguments set out in the
application and based on the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus
and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights,
ratified by the country, were ignored by it. The warning and the
response to my complaint are based only on the opinions of the
Prosecutor General and the officials and are not supported by factual
materials.
I believe that Mikalai Kuklis was just afraid to
meet with me, as the prosecutor's office is not an independent body,
and had issued an illegal warning to me on order of the Presidential
Administration. I regard the ctions of the Presidential
Administration and the General Prosecutor's Office as an act of
psychological pressure."
Tamara Siarhei plans to go to
court.
