Brest authorities believe that compaction of city center is not a matter of public interest
Brest Regional
Executive Committee responded to protests by residents of Karbyshau
Street who are unhappy with the plans to build a seven-story building
in their yard.
The authors of the appeal to the authorities
believe that the emergence of yet another high-rise apartment
building on this limited area in the city center will worsen the
living conditions. The residents also complain about the failure of
the authorities to hold a public discussion athwart the legal
requirements.
However, as it follows from the reply signed by
the deputy head of the executive committee Viktar Sakouski, there are
no violations in the plans to construct a new house and according to
a ruling of the Brest City Executive Committee the developer is not
obliged to hold a public discussion, and may confine hinself to
presenting the normative documents to the initiative group of
citizens, which was done.
As it is also stated in the answer,
the construction of the new house doesn't concern the interests of
the people who live nearby, as it will be held on a site which wasn't
used as a recreation zone. What concerns the places to park vehicles,
children's playgrounds and landscaping – all this was included in
the project and will be done after the completion of the contruction
works.
The authors of the appeal are dissatisfied with such
conclusions of the local authorities are going to appeal the decision
about hte beginning of the constructionin other state bodies.
