Hrodna activist of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, Siarhei Verameyenka, has not yet received the decision of the Regional Court, which dismissed his appeal against the ruling of the court of Leninski district of Hrodna, and now is virtually unwilling to send its own judgment.

On May 7, Judge Natallia Kozel found the activist guilty of producing printed materials without imprint and fined him 20 basic units (2 mln rubles). The trial was the result of an arrest that took place back on March 12, when the police seized from Siarhei a bag of leaflets outside the party Hrodna office.

Siarhei Verameyenka appealed the District Court’s verdict to the Regional Court. However, under the well-preserved tradition of pseudo-corporate solidarity, the Regional Court on June 4 took the side of the lower judicial body and confirmed the legality of the court ruling.

Meanwhile, the activist says that according to the Constitution every citizen has the right to free dissemination of information, and therefore the punishment was illegal. Mr. Verameyenka is going to file another complaint to the Chairman of the Regional Court in order continue protecting his constitutional rights.
