Andrei Haidukou's counsel appealed the verdict
As
the journalists informed by Andrei's mother, Volha Haidukova, the
lawyer Vadzim Mushynski appealed the verdict at the Supreme Court of
Belarus.
According to her, Andrei will be kept in the
Vitsebsk remand prison at least till the end of July and the mother
will try to get a meeting with him during that time.
On
1 July the civil activist from Navapolatsk Andrei Haidukou was found
guilty of attempting to establish cooperation with foreign
intelligence and sentenced to 1.5 years in prison. The trial was held
behind closed doors at the Vitsebsk Regional Court. It is still
unknown whether Andrei Haidukou pleaded guilty or not.
According
to the deputy prosecutor of the Vitsebsk region, Aliaksandr
Sidarovich, who gave an interview to a reporter of "Komsomolskaya
Pravda v Belarusi" after the trial, Andrei Haidukou allegedly
tried to contact the CIA, for which he passed them a letter with an
offer of collaboration with the aid of a friend who traveled abroad.
On the border Haidukou's letter to CIA was confiscated, after which
all his activities were watched by the security services, and he was
arrested after using a cache allegedly made by the US spies.
