Mahiliou: court turned down Alieh Aksionau's appeal
On 10 July the Leninski District Court
of Mahiliou didn't grant the appeal of an activist of the organizing
committee of the party Belarusian Christian Democracy against a
warning issued to him by the KGB on 19 April, allegedly for his
activities on behalf of an unregistered organization (a crime under
Article 193.1 of the Criminal Code).
Judge Valiantsina
Lapatsina stated that the Mahiliou Regional KGB Department issued the
warning lawfully. The reason for the warning were the Internet
publications, where Aleh Aksionau represented the organizing
committee of the Belarusian Christian Party.
The activist was
summonsed to the trial unexpectedly. He didn't receive any writ.
Instead of it, he received a telephone call from the court and was
asked why he hadn't come to the court sitting the day before. "I
answered that I wasn't informed about it", says Aleh Aksionau,
"and they told me to come as soon as possible, as they were
waiting for me".
The activist says that he is
dissatisfied with the court verdict and is going to appeal it at
higher court instances. "I am engaged in the process of the
creation of our party and intend to continue the activities aimed at
its legalization. The activities on behalf of the organizing
committee of the party must not be persecuted," says Aleh
Aksionau.
Bear in mind that he is currently under the
preventive supervision of the KGB, established over him for alleged
activities on behalf of unregistered organization.
