Homel residents join "Week of Political Prisoners"
An action in support of
political prisoners is held by the public-political center in
Paleskaya Street, 52 in Homel and was organized by the Homel human
rights defenders from "Viasna" and "Salidarnasts".
All interested people can come there and write postcards for the
Belarusian political prisoners.
It's worth mentioning that
Homel human rights defenders regularly hold similar actions aimed at
giving moral support to political prisoners.
On 14 March
lawyer Leanid Sudalenka received a postcard from Babruisk from
political prisoner Ales Bialiatski. The prisoner sincerely thanked
for their support, and congratulated them with the Freedom Day:
"Hello Leanid, greetings from Babruisk! Thanks for the card. I
feel quite alright. I work, read newspapers and write letters. So the
days and pass, there's no time to grieve. Congratulations on Freedom
Day! Freedom is what all of us lack nowadays. Pass my greetings to
friends."
On 11 April a similar postcard was receive by
human rights defender Anatol Paplauny. Mr. Bialiatski thanked Homel
residents for their support and expressed his hope to see you soon,
"Hello Anatol, I have received a joint letter with warm words
from different people, thank you all. I have no special news. At
present I have one-year work experience at the penitentiary, though I
should confess that I like mental work much more. I read, I write
letters and develop myself internall and spiritually, so everything
is not so bad. See you! Ales".
Bear in mind that Belarus
still has 11 political prisoners: the head of the Human Rights Center
"Viasna" Ales Bialiatski, former presidential candidate
Mikalai Statkevich, the leader of the Belarusian Christian Democracy
Pavel Seviarynets, the leader of the "Young Front" Zmitser
Dashkevich, an activist of the "Young Front Eduard Lobau,
entrepreneur Mikalai Autukhovich, several activists of the anarchist
movement (Ihar Alinevich, Mikalai Dziadok, Aliaksandr Frantskevich)
and two people convicted for setting fire to the Babruisk KGB
Department – Yauhen Vaskovich and Artsiom Prakapenka.
