Brest residents apply to prosecutor's office to protect their property rights
Dwellers of the house
in Astroustki Street, 10 filed an appeal to the prosecutor's office.
The reason is that the Brest City Executive Committee requires their
eviction, citing the emergency condition of the building.
Interestingly, in 2011, the Brest authorities concluded an investment
agreement with a private company for the sale of the house, which is
a historical and cultural value located in the center of the city. A
year later, it was stated that building was in a bad state and the
dwellers were to be evicted from it. However, not all of them agreed
to move to a distant suburb of Brest. One of them, Valiantsina
Maltsava, believes that the forced eviction violates the property
rights of the dwellers and the investment agreement must be
abolished.
"The very fact of sugning such agreement
without informing us, owners of the apartments, is outrageous, as far
as the apartments have been privatized, including the basement and
ancillary facilities," says Valiantsima Maltsava. She hopes that
the Brest regional prosecutor's office will make due conclusions and
and recognize violations on the part of the city authorities.
