Young Front activist Uladzimir Yaromenak faces another prison term

On July 14, his own wedding day, Young Front activist Uladzimir Yaromenak received a phone call from a police investigator who urged him to appear for a conversation on Monday. Later, the policemen agreed to put off the conversation till Tuesday. Today, the activist was served a decision to institute criminal proceedings against him under Article 421 of the Criminal Code “Violation of preventive supervision restrictions”, dated 24 May.

The activist refused to testify in the case, and the investigator asked him to come again on Thursday, July 18, with a lawyer, the press service of the Young Front reports.

Uladzimir Yaromenak has been under preventive supervision after his release in August 2011. The activist served a sentence for involvement in the Square-2010 events. He was arrested by the security services on December 20, 2010 after a rally of solidarity with political prisoners in front of the Government House. For this he was sentenced to 15 days in jail, which he spent in Zhodzina jail. After that he was called as a witness for questioning by the KGB, which ended with a 7-day arrest. On January 28, 2011 Uladzimir Yaromenak was arrested for the third time, this time as a suspect in the rioting case, and was taken into custody in the KGB detention center. He was later charged under par. 1 and 2 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code (mass disorders). On May 14, 2011 Partyzanski Court of Minsk sentenced him to 3 years of imprisonment. He served his sentence in prison "Vitsba" near Vitsebsk. On August 11, 2011 Lukashenko pardoned the activist and he was released.
