Niakliayeu to stand trial on July 25
The trial in the case of former presidential candidate Uladzimir Niakliaeu is scheduled for July 25.
Charter97.org received this information from Niakliaeu.
“I received a summons to appear in court on July 25. I think that Iryna Khalip, Mikalai Statkevich, Zmitser Dashkevich, I and other political prisoners will be released and rehabilitated. Unfortunately, it won't happen on July 25 this year. We cannot hope for anything good with these authorities. But I would like it, as any person. The nature of the Lukashenka regime remains unchanged in spite of the changes in the EU policy towards Belarus. I don't see anything strange here,” the chairman of the civil campaign Tell the Truth said.
On May 2011, Niakliaeu was given a two-year suspended sentence. The judgement was pronounced by judge of Minsk's Frunzenski district court Zhanna Zhukouskaya. The former presidential candidate was found guilty of violating part 1 of article 342 of the Criminal Code (organising or preparing the actions that breach public order, or active participating in such actions).
The Minsk city court upheld the decision of the Frunzenski district court on July 22, 2011.
On June 10, 2013, Uladzimir Niakliaeu's claim to launch a probe into an attack on him on December 19, 2010, was dismissed.
