Uladzimir Yaromenak banned from leaving town
On June 22, Young Front activist Uladzimir Yaromenak read a criminal case initiated against him for alleged violations of the rules of preventive supervision.
“My lawyer and I read the case, including different documents, in particular police reports for alleged violations. There are only two violations found by the court. The rest ones are what the police think to be violations. I don't agree with them. The lawyer prepared complaint. We turned attention that the case was investigated rapidly for 15 days, though it was initiated yet in May. Why? This is another reason to complain. The case will be sent to the prosecutor's office. If the second investigation is not needed, it will be submitted to a court. I don't know when it will happen,” Yaromenak said to Radio Svaboda.
According to Uladzimir Yaromenak, an investigator forbade him to leave the town. The activist says the step is senseless: “Under the supervision rules, I cannot leave the town without permission of the police.”
Yaromenak explained his another criminal case by the political situation and refers to the case against Vasily Parfiankou.
“A similar case was initiated against Vasily Parfiankou. It was all of a sudden, too. So, we can see a system here. Maybe it can be explained by the trade in political prisoners that was resumed recently. The EU foreign ministers meet today in Brussels. Belarusian foreign minister Uladzimir Makei was invited to the meeting, though he had been subject to a travel ban. Zmitser Dashkevich is to be released in a month. Aliaksandr Frantskevich and others will then be released. The authorities demonstrate Europe that they can increase the number of political prisoners and look at the reaction,” Yaromenak supposes.
