The activists of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) received a response from the Brest City Executive Committee concerning their statements regarding the construction of a multi-stored building on the site of a stadium in a Rechytsa suburb.

As stated by the local leader of the Social Democrats Ihar Maslouski, the appeal was sent to the authorities within the framework of the announced public discussion of the project. Members of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (H) proposed to retain the sports facility, conduct a comprehensive reconstruction of the stadium and build the house at another free site. However, the executive committee answered that the house would still be built exactly on the site of the stadium and later a sports ground with opportunities for team sports, a treadmill and a pit for jumping, will constructed at the expense of the association "Brestablselstroi". The response also reported that the Department of Education of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, which owns the stadium, agreed that this land was to be given over to the project of building a house.

"The position of the Department of Education, which unhesitatingly abandoned the site, is rather strange,” says Ihar Maslouski. “However, in the response of the executive committee there is no information on the results of the public discussion and the attitude of the residents of the Rechytsa suburb living near the site, to the building of a house instead of the stadium, which is the most important moment! After all, in the comments on the websites of local newspapers and forums, we see a clear negative reaction of people to the plans of the authorities to build a house there. Then why even hold a discussion if the outcome is already known?"

Brest Social Democrats intend to continue to monitor developments surrounding the construction of the house, including the construction of the promised playground.
