BCD demands information about the fate of priest Uladzislau Lazar
The organizing committee of the party
"Belarusian Christian Democracy" demands that the KGB
provide complete information about the fate of the detained priest
Uladzislau Lazar.
According to testimonies of parishioners of
the Holy Spirit parish in Barysau, the priest disappeared two months
ago – which means that he was to have received formal charges
already.
The "spy case" of Andrei Haidukou proved to
everyone that the charges of cooperation with foreign intelligence
services in today's Belarus were most often a provocation of the the
intelligence and a way to intimidate the society. The parishioners,
devoid of the shepherd, Catholics and all people of good will need
demand that the KGB provide information about the accused priest
Uladzislau Lazar including the reasons why he is kept in the KGB
prison and why the statements about his guilt are made by the
top-rank state officials in the absence of investigation and
trial.
We believe that the arrest of reverend Uladzislau is an
attempt to intimidate or blackmail the Belarusian Church and
believers.
Bear in mind that on 26 July Aliaksandr Lukashenka
said that Belarus had detained an intelligence officer, who with the
help of representatives of the Catholic Church collaborated with
foreign intelligence services. The following day it was reported that
the rector of the Catholic parish of Holy Spirit in Barysau, Catholic
priest Uladzislau Lazar, had been kept in the KGB detention center
for two months already. It is still not known why he was detained and
whether he has any relations to the case, mentioned by Aliaksandr
Lukashenka. The KGB still conceals all information about it.
