The Zhlobin District Prosecutor's Office filed a protest to the Homel Regional Court against the decision of the Zhlobin District Court to acquit the member of the Belarusian Leftist Party “Fair World” Yauhen Basareuski of all charges..

“On Friday I received a copy of the protest to the court”, - says Mr. Basareuski. “Therefore, I shouldn't relax too much, as the court proceedings can resume again pretty soon.”

The activist says it is likely that the protest of the prosecutor's office could be triggered by the possibility of a lawsuit for compensation of the means Mr. Basareuski spent during the three years of litigation.

Bear in mind that on 19 July the Zhlobin District Court acquitted the member of the party "Fair World" as well as his former colleague, Valiantsina Kastsiukevich, both of whom were charged under Article 424 of the Criminal Code ("abuse of power or official powers"). The proceedings on the case lasted since 2010, when the activist tried to get nominated as a candidate for deputy at the election to the local councils.
