More actions of solidarity with Ales Bialiatski held in Belarus (photos)
Barysau
On
5 August human rights defender Aleh Matskevich presented postcards
for the political prisoner Ales Bialiatski to each visitor of the
editorial office of of the private newspaper “Barysauskiya
Naviny”.
He handed out several dozens of postcards and told
the visitors that twelve people are still kept in jail in Belarus
because of their political views. Barysau residents listened to the
human rights defender with interest and eagerly took the postcards.
Many of them assured they would send them to the political prisoners.
Brest
On
5 August Brest human rights defenders held an informational action in
support of the head of the Human Rights Center “Viasna”,
vice-president of the International Federation for Human Rights Ales
Bialiatski who has been kept in jail for two years already.
As
stated by one of the action participants, Yury Zhydovich, human
rights defenders handed out informational postcards dedicated to Ales
Bialiatski, as well as postcards for other political prisoners, in
the center of Brest. 
Klimavichy
On
5 August leaflets, dedicated to the Day of Solidarity with the Civil
Society of Belarus and dated to the second anniversary of the arrest
of Ales Bialiatski, were posted in the streets of Klimavichy. The
action was held by activists of “Tell the Truth”.
On 6
August they also filed an application to the Klimavichy District
Executive Committee for holding a picket on 23 August.
“We
prepared to this action in advance”, says the Klimavichy activist
of “Tell the Truth” Aliaksandr Balobin. “On 4 August we wrote
and sent two letters of solidarity with Als Biliatski. On 5 August we
posted leaflets, dedicated to the International Day of Solidarity
with the Civil Society of Belarus and political prisoners, on
advertisement boards and bus stops in Hertsen, 50 hod SSSR and
Kamunistychnaya Streets. By the way, the leaflets are still there,
nobody has torn them down. Today, on 6 August, we also filed an
application for holding a picket on 23 August.”
Mahiliou
Portraits
of Ales Bialiatski have been hanging in the center of Mahiliou for
two days already. On 6 August they were noticed in at least three
public places. Moreover,
such leaflets keep hanging at the bus stops in the villages of the
Mahiliou district.
On
4 August Mahiliou human rights defenders held an action of solidarity
with Ales Bialiatski. They handed out postcards with his photos and
posted his portraits in the places for advertisement. One of the
action participants, Dyiana Burakova, was detained and spent an hour
at the police station. She was released as soon as the police
officers drew up a detention report. 
Orsha
In
the evening of 4 August activists of the Human Rights Center “Viasna”
handed out several hundreds postcards in support of the political
prisoner Ales Bialiatski. According to one of the action
participants, Vasil Leuchankau, a part of passers-by expressed
solidarity with political prisoners. There were also some people who
heard about this issue for the first time. The action lasted for 15
minutes and ended without detentions.
Prior to the event four
Orsha activists applied to the Orsha District Executive Committee
with the request to permit the picket they intended to hold in the
recreation part of workers of the knitting industry. However, the
authorities banned the action referring to the fact that its
organizers didn't enter into service agreements with the police,
public utilities and medics.
