Andrei Andreyeu, activist of the People’s Referendum initiative, was detained by the police in Vitsebsk yesterday evening while distributing leaflets advertising the campaign.
The activist was reportedly followed by a police car and eventually detained in one of the residential buildings. He was then taken to Kastrychnitski district police department.
According to Lidziya Sahidulina, local coordinator of the Tell the Truth campaign, the activist is facing charges under Art. 22.9 of the Administrative Code for alleged violation of mass media laws. As reported by the dyjalog.info web-resource, the police also seized 700 copies of the campaign leaflets.
Andrei Andreyeu is expected to stand trial tomorrow and may be fined up to 5 mln.
