Brest authorities ban the pickets against the introduction of the exit fee
The local activists of
the United Civil Party filed applications for four pickets, by means
of which they intended to draw the attention of the society to the
new initiative of the authorities which violates the rights of
citizens, namely – the intention to take an exit fee of $100 from
the Belarusian citizens who intended to buy goods abroad.
However,
the Brest City Executive Committee banned the events,
citing the fact that the applicants proposed
to hold the actions in the places which
weren't suitable for them or failed to enter into service contracts
with the police, ambulance and sttreet cleaners.
The head of
the Brest regional branch of the United Civil Party Uladzimir Vuyek
believes that such a ban is also a violation of the civil rights to
freedom of expression and assembly.
