The secretary of the Central Election Commission Mikalai Lazavik said that the CEC saw no pre-conditions for correcting the date of election of members of local councils.

“We are guided by the norms of the legislation, according to which the local elections must take place in the 20-ies days of March”, said the official.

According to Mr. Lazavik, “there are no objective reasons for transferring the elections to an earlier date”.

The Electoral Code provides that the elections to the local councils of the new convocation are appointed by the President of the Republic of Belarus not later than four months before and are held not later than 30 days before the expiry of the powers of the local councils of the acting convication. According to this norm, the election to the local councils will be held not later than in March 2014.
