Ales Bialiatski to write memoirs about Viktar Ivashkevich

Pinchuk, the wife of the political prisoner, head of the Human Rights
Center "Viasna" Ales Bialiatski , had a telephone talk with
her husband. Bialiatski is currently serving 4.5 years of
imprisonment in Babruisk penitentiary No. 2. According to Natallia
Pinchuk, her husband found about the death of his close friend and
colleague Viktar Ivashkevich from the newspapers.
“The first
thing Ales said in our telephone conversation was that he learned
about the death of Viktar Ivashkevich. The news was stunning. It is
still difficult for Ales to comprehend what has happened, so tragic
the news was for him.
Ales Bialiatski said he wanted to
collect his thoughts and write memories about Ivashkevich, whom he
had known since the 1980-ies, when the Belarusian national revival
movement began .
Natallia Pinchuk also said that Ales
Bialiatski learned from the newspapers that he was awarded the prize
of Vaclav Havel, but they almost didn't speak about it, this news
fainded into the background of Ivashkevich's death.
