Tatsiana Reviaka takes part in 7th Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders at Risk
The 7th
Platform, gathering participants from all over
the world, started in the Irish capital on 9
October. Belarus is represented by the
journalist Iryna Khalip, the coordinator of
the Office on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Siarhei
Drazdouski and a member of the Council of the Human Rights Center
“Viasna” and the President of the Belarusian Human Rights House
in Vilnius Tatsiana Reviaka.
Dublin
Platform is one of the
biggest events in the world for human rights defenders. This year it
is attended by more than 130 human rights activists from 85 different
countries, all of whom face serious risks
associated with their pecaeful activities in
defense of the rights of others.
The organizer of this
large-scale event is the International Foundation for the Protection
of Human Rights Defenders Front Line.
The conference, which
runs from 9 to 11 October, will discuss the security and protection
for human rights defenders working in conflict zones, female
human rights defenders and the
regional mechanisms to protect human rights defenders.
At the
invitation of the organizers, the conference is attended by
the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights
defenders Margaret Sekagya, the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of
assembly and of association Maina Kiai,
the EU Special
Representative on Human Rights Defenders Stavros Lambrynidis, the
Chairman of the Northern Ireland Human Rights
Commission Michael
O'Flaherty
and representatives of the Government and the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of Ireland, the Inter-American Commission on Human rights and
the African Commission on human and Peoples Rights.
According
to the organizers, the conference report will be based on the reports
on the results of the individual working groups, plenary sessions and
information obtained from interviews with human rights defenders at
the conference.
Earlier Dublin Platform for Human Rights
Defenders was held in
January of 2002, September of 2003, October 2005, November 2007 ,
February 2010 and September of 2011 .
