Krychau court dismisses case against Volny Horad newspaper

Krychau district court dismissed today another lawsuit filed against the journalists of the independent newspaper Volny Horad ("Free Town"), after employees of the Cherykau-based state-owned enterprise PMK-280 gave up their claims to the weekly.

The suitors withdrew their claim because the circumstances had reportedly “changed”.

Editor of the Volny Horad, Siarhei Niarouny, believes that the plaintiffs have abandoned their claims after Mikalai Kadatsenka, chairman of Cherykau executive committee, moved to another post.

“I’ve already said that ordinary workers of PMK-280 were not the actual authors of the claim, it was clear from the very beginning. We knew who really wanted to silence the newspaper Volny Horad,” says the newspaper’s editor-in-chief.

Two workers of PMK-280, plasterer Baihala and joiner Koneu demanded 16 million rubles in moral damages for an article published in the Volny Horad on June 29, which reportedly damaged their reputation.
