The statement was made by head of the EU delegation to Belarus Maira Mora.

As charter97.org has learnt, the statement was made at the international conference “Strategies for the Future Policy towards Belarus” in Vilnius.

According to Maira Mora, a decision to extend the sanctions against the Lukashenka regime will be taken in the nearest future, but 13 persons will be removed from the list of those subject to a travel ban and sanctions will be lifted from 5 companies. Three persons will be added to the blacklist.

The EU's visa and economic restrictions target 243 Belarusian officials, including Lukashenka, and 32 entities. The sanctions were imposed on the dictator's personal bankers – Yury Chizh, Vladimir Peftiev and Anatoly Ternavsky and their companies. The restrictive measures against the Belarusian authorities were applied due to systematic human rights violations and repression against the opposition and civil society.
