Inmates of Mahiliou prison unable to subscribe to newspapers

Mrs. Taisia Kabanchuk, leader of the Babruisk office of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party, says that her friend received back her letter with a check for the subscription sent to Mahiliou prison No. 4. A resident of Babruisk, who asked not to disclose her name, subscribed one of the inmates of prison No. 4 to a number of newspapers. For a while, everything was OK, subscription was allowed, the newspapers and magazines reached the destination. And suddenly her latest letter with another subscription returned stamped by prison No. 4 and the word “forwarded to Mahiliou.” The letter contained a receipt for the subscription to “Secret Research,” “Narodnaya Volia", "Komsomolskaya Pravda v Belorussii", "Nasha Slova”, "Popular mechanics". There was also a note with the following text: "Returned. Subscription allowed at one’s own expense using personal account.”

Three political prisoners are now held in prison No. 4: Mikalai Statkevich, Yauhen Vaskovich and Mikalai Dziadok.
