Police search apartment of BCD activist in Baranavichy
The police Baranavichy searched last evening the apartment of Artsiom Babei, local activist of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, the BCD press-service reports quoting its coordinator in the Brest region Zmitser Shurkhai.
“The search took place in the absence of Artsiom, between 9 and 10 o'clock in the evening, there was just his mother there. The policemen explained that the search was connected with a fight between local students and Turkmens that took place a few days before.”
“The fact is that after that fight, which took place on December 13, the city police, including riot police, detained groups of young people in the streets of Baranavichy, who were then taken to the police station and registered. Artsiom was caught in such a raid a few days ago. And now they came to his place allegedly to search for things related to the fight,” said Zmitser Shurkhai.
As a result of the search, two laptops were seized – mother’s and sister’s – and leaflets with political content, including BCD campaign flyers on family values and against drugs. The police also seized a baseball bat, as Artsiom is keen on baseball.
