Brest city territorial election commission for the elections of deputies of the Brest City Council was formed yesterday.

The meeting lasted no more than 6 minutes. Head of the personnel department, Nina Matysik, said that the Council and the executive committee had received 20 nominations: 5 – from citizens, 4 – from labor groups, and 11 from non-governmental organizations and parties (including 6 parties ("Fair World", Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada), PBC, LDP, UCP and BPF) and 5 associations (Belarusian Republican Youth Union, Belarusian Women's Union, the Belarusian Veterans Association, the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus and the Belarusian Union of Officers).

The selection of the candidates to the commission was based on the principle of “literacy and working abilities” and “with regard to the representation of the population.”

The proposed 13 candidates were voted for unanimously. There was no discussion.

Thus, among the 13 members of the city territorial election commission in Brest there is only one party nominee – a representative of the pro-government Communist Party of Belarus, while the rest were ignored.
