On 2 January social activist Viktar Syrytsa received a letter from Brest Regional Court signed by the chair of the court Tamara Suchok and informed him about the dismissal of his complaint on the case of Milavidy Festival.

Let us remind that on 31 July 2013 Judge Katsiaryna Hruda convicted Mr. Syrytsa Recall of an offense under Part 2 of Art. 23.34 of the Administrative Code, and held administratively liable to a fine of 20 basic units for preparing and organizing an unsanctioned rally in Milavidy on 2 June 2013.

Mr. Syrytsa considers this verdict to be illegal because of one-sided and biased consideration of the circumstances of the administrative offense, that's why he appealed it appealed to the chairperson of the regional court.

“I always have some hope, but for the last 20 years there were no cases when the chair of the regional court quashed verdicts of Baranavichy City Court or Brest Regional Court. I have a very strong case, but for some reason the court relies solely on the testimony of Major Kuliashou, officer of Baranovichi District Police Department. The court of first instance and the Brest Regional Court, as well as the chair of the court did not take into account the act, which was signed by nine people, as well as written explanations by Viachaslau Bolbat, Siarhei Housha, Uladzimir Hundar, Anzhalika Kambalava, Ryhor Makarevich and Halina Yarashevich who participated in the travel to the official holiday in Milavidy on 2 June and wanted to testify in court,” said the activist.

Now Viktar Syrytsa intends to appeal the verdict at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus.
