On 4 January the first hearing in the case of preventive supervision for former political prisoner Aliaksandr Malchanau took place in the Barysau District Court .

Upon leaving the court, Mr. Malchhanau told Radio "Liberty"

“There has been no trial so far. As it turned out, the police sent the case to court too hastily, as the decision on the extension of preventive supervision can only be based on the verdict of the administrative court, and there is no such verdict. Therefore, the trial was postponed to 10 January.
According to the law, by 10 January they will have to hold an administrative trial for my having not come to register to police once during the term of preventive supervision. The verdict can come into force only ten days later, after which the trial on extending the term of supervision can be held – not earlier than 14 January, whereas my term ends on 13 January. However, I have little hope that they will abide by the law, if they have an order from the higher authorities. Let's see. I should also note that the police inspection has prepared quite a positive testimonial about me, that's why everything may end well," commented Mr. Malchanau.

In summer 2013 the public activist was released from a penitentiary and was put under preventive supervision. At the end of December 2013 Aliaksandr Malchanau was informed that he was summoned to court to take part in the hearing on the extension of the term of preventive supervision, as he had failed to timely visit the police station once while being under supervision. At present the former political prisoner is working at the tank repair factory in Barysau.
