Presidium of Mahiliou Regional Court reversed the verdict on the case of “Volny Horad”

On December 27, 2013 The Presidium of the Mahiliou Regional Court decided to annul the verdict of the Krychau District Court for June 17, 2013 concerning the claim of Cherykau PMK- 280 to the printed mass media “Volny Horad” and its journalists and terminate the proceedings. Yesterday the journalists received a copy of the verdict by mail.

The Presidium of the Mahiliou Regional Court also ruled that PMK-280 was to be explained its right to sue to the Mahiliou Regional Economic Court for protection of business reputation.

Yesterday the journalists received a copy of the verdict by mail.

The Presidium of the Mahiliou Regional Court also ruled that PMK-280 was to be explained its right to sue to the Mahiliou Regional Economic Court for protection of business reputation.

Editor of the independent Krychau newspaper "Volny Horad" Siarhei Niarouny believes that
Cherykau PMK-280 will hardly use this right, as the previous Chairperson of the Cherykau District Executive Committee, who initiated the prosecution of the newspaper, was replaced by another person.

Let us remind that on June 17, the Krychau district court judge Aliaksandr Kurylin issued a verdict on the lawsuit for protection of the business reputation of Cherykau PMK-280 against "Volny Horad". The court found the information of the article “Sefs” published in No. 4 of “Volny Horad” for February 3, 2013 untrue and ordered the newspaper to publish a retraction.

The article was published after a call to the editorial office of “Volny Horad” of the wife of a worker of Cherykau PMK-280. The journalists advised her to seek help from the Krychau Inter-District Labor Inspectorate. The administration of PMK-280 considered the article as “discrediting the administration of PMK-280 and the district power vertical".

Journalists of "Volny Hoard" are especially grateful to human rights defender Barys Bukhel, who has rendered them the necessary legal assistance during the many months of the litigation.
