Democratic activists intend to run for the local councils in Bykhau, Kruhlaye and Shklou

January 14 Mikalai Kucharenka filed documents for registration of the initiative group to collect signatures for his nomination as a candidate for the Mahiliou Regional Council of 27 Convocation in Shklou town constituency No. 57. Mr. Kucharenka is a well-known regional ethnographer, former professional soldier, positioning himself as an independent pretender. As we learned, Shklou activists of the civil campaign “Tell the Truth” and the party Belarusian Popular Front have expressed their intention to assist his electoral campaign.

January 14 an activist of the Belarusian Popular Front Siarhei Antonau documents for registration of the initiative group to Bykhau city constituency election commission No. 14. He is going to run for the Mahiliou Regional Council in this constituency. As said by Mr. Antonau, in the case of registration of the initiative group he will use the period of collecting signatures to hold a picket against the deployment of foreign military bases on the territory of Belarus.

At the end of last week, Bialynichy entrepreneur and activist of “Tell the Truth” Aleh Miatselitsa filed documents for registration of his initiative group to Kruhlaye election constituency No. 27. Mr. Miatselitsa decided to run for the Mahiliou Reginal Council at this constituency, as he had spent all his childhood in one of the local villages. Moreover, a part of the Bialynichy district belonged to Kruhlaye election constituency during the previous local elections.

Interestingly, the chairman of the Kruhlaye constituency election commission No. 27 Ivan Sapliukou personally phoned all members of the initiative group of Aleh Miatselitsa to verify the information that they really voluntarily joined the group. Pensioner Ivan Sapliukou, who used to head the personnel department of the Kruhlaye District Executive Committee, has presided election commissions in the Kruhlaye district during elections at various levels for many years already.
