Brest “For Freedom” coordinator sues Ministry of Culture

Brest coordinator of the Movement "For Freedom" Dzianis Turchaniak trying to challenge the actions of the Ministry of Culture of Belarus, which coordinated the project documentation and issued a permit for the construction of a road bridge at the Brest Fortress.

Mr. Turchaniak filed a lawsuit with the Tsentralny District Court of Minsk, saying that the bridge is being built in the place of historical and cultural value, memorial complex "Brest Fortress", where it never existed, and ensues unnecessary changes that can not be attributed to the restoration work. In addition, the law prohibits coordination of scientific and design documentation to perform restoration work on the historical and cultural values belonging to cathegories 0, 1 and 2, unless ot is supported by the Scientific-Methodological Board. Meanwhile, there is no decision of the Board in the documents relating to the construction of the bridge.

Brest coordinator of the Movement "For Freedom" asks the court to find illegal the actions of the Ministry of Culture of Belarus on coordination of the project documentation and issuance of the permit for the construction of the bridge, and recognize the corresponding documents invalid.
