Homel region: courts uphold non-inclusion of “Fair World” members in election commissions
February 7, two appeals against the non-inclusion of members of the Belarusian Left Party "Fair World" in precinct election commissions were considered by courts.
All in all, 88 members of “Fair World” were nominated to the commissions in the Homel region. According to preliminary information, they were not included in the PECs at least in Mazyr, Rechytsa, Buda-Kashaliova, Homel and Svetlahorsk.
Head of the regional organization of the party Uladzimir Siakerka believes that the decisions of the
bodies which formed the commissions were illegal, as democratic activists were unreasonably not included in the PECs. For example, in Rechytsa it was stated that the “Fair World” members were fairly old. Meanwhile, 19 representatives of the veterans' union were included in the PECs.
February 7 Judge of the Buda-Kashaliova Court Katsiaryna Shubich dismissed the appeal against the decision of the executive committee on formation of the PECs. Representatives of the executive committee explained the non-inclusion of the “Fair World” members by the fact that is more convenient for them to work with the people who they knew well enough and who were experienced in such work. “I stated that among our candidates there were a former schoolmaster a former chairman of the district council, who also had previous experience of working in election commissions,” stated Mr. Siakerka.
A similar decision was taken on February 7 by the Tsentralny District Court of Homel. “Fair World” members are also going to appeal their non-inclusion in the PECs in other districts of the Homel region.
