March 12, activist of the United Civil Party Dzianis Rabianok learned that new court proceedings had been started against him on a civil lawsuit of his neighbor, who demands that the activist pay him 10 million rubles as compensation for moral damages and lawyer's services. According to the writ handed to Mr. Rabianok, the hearings start on March 21.

Almost a year ago, in April 2013, the neighbor assaulted Dzianis Rabianok with a pepper spray. As a result, the activist received a burn of the eyes and had to be treated by an ophthalmologist. For nearly eight months the activist tried to get a punishment for the offender. For this he had to apply to the police, prosecutor's office and the court. However, the only result was that the victim was found guilty and the offender was freed from liability.

Dzianis Rabianok says that these months of repeated visits to the state agencies eloquently prove the things in which he was sure at the very beginning – the assault on him and all further activities of the law machinery are directly connected to his socio-political activities.

He considers the new case against him to be a continuation of the previous actions. “At every opportunity, I try to to help residents of the Kalinkavichy district who address me with requests for protection against the unlawful pressurization on the part of the police and the courts. There is a great number of such people in the province,” reports the ativist.

Having faced with the evident and bold lawlessness perpetrated by representatives of punitive structures, he has no hopes for a fair verdict.
