Mikalai Ulasevich deprived of candidate’s registration
Mikalai Ulasevich, a candidate for the Varniany Rural Council in constituency No. 4, Hrodna region, has been deprived of a candidate’s status by a decision of the election commission. The decision refers to the candidate’s alleged calling for the boycott of the elections featured in his leaflets.
Mikalai Ulasevich argues there were no calls for a boycott in his leaflet, but slogans “Stop Nuclear Power Plant Construction", "Bring Corrupt Officials to Justice", "Give us Small Border Traffic", "Public Sauna Will Work in Varniany" and "Fair Elections and Change of Power." Mikalai Ulasevich, who has only managed to campaign for two days, says the authorities are simply afraid of alternative views and executed a political order by "removing" him from the election campaign.
The Election Commission also accused Mikalai Ulasevich of distributing the flyers outside his constituency. Earlier, the activist was not registered as a candidate for the Regional and District Councils. Appealing against the decision to the Regional Commission and the courts brought no positive results.
