Civil society activist Viktar Syrytsa received an answer to his complaint from Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court V. Kalinkovich. As it is stated in the answer, the complaint against the verdict of Judge of the Baranvichy City and District Court Katsiaryna Hruda of July 31, 2013 and the verdict of Judge of the Brest Regional Court Natallia Surma of August 29, 2013 in the case of the Milavidy festival was considered with an examination of the case materials.

The Supreme Court upheld the verdicts and confirmed the legality of fining Mr. Syrytsa 20 basic units for the preparation and holding the unauthorized meeting in Milavidy on June 2, 2013 in honor of the 150th anniversary of the insurgency of Kastus Kalinouski.

“I still regard these verdicts as illegal due to the one-sided and non-objective discrimination in the circumstances of the case. The courts ignore the Act of June 2, signed by nine persons, as well as the written explanations given by Uladzimir Hundar, Ryhor Makarevich, Viachaslau Bolbat, Halina Yarashevich, Siarhei Housha and Anzhalika Kambalava. All of them were participants of the trip to the official holiday in Milavidy on June 2 and were ready to testify at court. There was no unauthorized event that day. The people just came to the official event, announced by the state-owned newspaper “Nash Krai”, stated Mr. Syrytsa.

The civil society activist strongly disagrees with the verdict of the Supreme Court and intends to complaint to the Prosecutor General of Belarus about the hasty and superficial study of the circumstances of his administrative case.
