Valery Karankevich, a former candidate for the Mahiliou Regional Council in Khotsimsk constituency No. 54 and a candidate for the Khotsimsk District Council in constituency No. 13, filed today a complaint to the Central Election Committee.

Valery Karankevich says that the Khotsimsk District and Mahiliou Regional Election Commissions have not answered his complaint, in which he pointed to the gross violations of voting procedures at polling stations Nos. 1 and 3 in Khotsimsk and urged the commissions to recount the ballots in these polling stations. The complaints were filed on March 26.

On March 23, Valery Karankevich was detained by the police at polling station No. 3 in Khotsimsk. The candidate was taken to the police station, where he was held for about 40 minutes without charges and then released. As a result, he could not observe the counting of ballots.

The former candidate believes that police detained him in order to prevent his presence at the counting of ballots.
