Aleh, 24, a resident of Minsk, was detained at Minsk-Arena in the evening of 22 May, where he had come to see a match between Belarus and Sweden. The youth attracted attention by a white-red-white flag painted on his cheek.
The policemen brought the young man to the police department of Minsk’s Tsentralny district, where he faced charges under Article 17.1 of the Administrative Code for “petty hooliganism”. He was held in the police department for almost a day before the trial.
On May 23, Judge Viktorya Shabunia of the Tsentralny District Court punished him by a fine of 750,000 rubles. Aleh is going to appeal against the verdict.
