Lawyer allowed to visit political prisoner Vasil Parfiankou
Vasil Parfiankou’s counsel has been allowed to visit the political prisoner in the Horki penal colony and is going to see him in the near future. Obtaining such permission was difficult, Radio Liberty’s Belarus service reports.
“For two months, we have heard nothing from Vasil Parfiankou, and we do not know why,” says civil society activist Volha Mikalaichyk. “His lawyer will go to him to find out why and how we can help. This is a mockery that they do not allow his letters for two months. Not only that he is alone, but also information isolation.”
Vasil Parfiankou was sentenced to a year in a penal colony for breaking the rules of preventive supervision. This restrictive measures were applied to him after several arrests for involvement in actions of solidarity with political prisoners. The activist is serving his sentence in a prison in the town of Horki, where he has been repeatedly punished with solitary confinement.
