Today’s meeting of leaders of the Customs Union member-countries and Ukraine in Minsk will be held in a “particular context”, as it is expected to involve the EU representative at the invitation of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko, said Maja Kocijančič, Spokesperson for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, at a briefing in Brussels on August 25.

“This is not a bilateral visit to Belarus. You surely know what the relationship between the European Union and Belarus are like today. A number of findings the EU Council reflect this situation. There are problems in the political field, and the position of the European Union in this regard has not changed,” said the spokeswoman.

This was her answer to a question whether Catherine Ashton would have any meetings with non-governmental and other organizations during her visit to Minsk.
