In the Brest City Executive Committee dissatisfied residents made a spontaneous picket (photos)

By this picket people protested against the investment project under the name "Italian Quarter", in result of which some residential buildings in the city center will be demolished.
Residents came to the public discussion of this project with homemade posters "Say No to the building in our yard", "Our city is not your home", "Whose interests are protected by the authorities?" According to participants, the reason for such protests is that the city authorities do not take any arguments of those who are living in the historic part of the city and who are against plans of the city authorities, who are planning demolition of residential buildings in the quarter within the Mitskiewicha, Savetskaja, Komsomolskaja and Pushkina streets.
Previous discussions have failed, because the people living in that territory haven’t got certain answers from the authorities to questions concerning the problems of gardening, ecology, transport, as well as in connection with the contradictions in the previously adopted regulations. Meanwhile, Brest city executive committee formally approved the investment project "Italian Quarter" four years ago, without consulting with the residents of the houses that are in the "evacuation zone". Now, people are hoping that because the investor didn’t fulfill his promise in the initial stage, the authorities would abolish the previous agreement and would consider the trade-offs offered by the residents of this district. If it is not, people are ready for the further protests, in order to attract public attention to their problem. By the way, a spontaneous picket in the executive committee ended without undesirable consequences for participants.
