Court sides with police in Mikalai Charnavus' case
October 8, the Baranavichy City and District Court considered a claim of the entrepreneur Mikalai Charnavus on protection of honor and dignity against actionsof the deputy head of the Baranavichy City PoliceDepartment Eldar Vilchkouski. The court session was led by Judge Volha Apanovich with the assistance of the court clerk Krystsina Hladkikh.
Mikalai Charnavus presented documents from the hospital and argued in court that the police had refused to call an ambulance for him, 2nd group invalid, when he felt bad during the drafting of a violation report against him. He emphasized that in his written objection at the regional courtLieutenant-colonel Eldar Vilchkouski spread a derogatory information that during his detention as a result an of unauthorized strike of Baranavichy entrepreneurs on July 2 Mikalai Charnavus just pretended that he felt bad. Therefore, the social activist asked the court to recognize an insult in the written objections of First Deputy Chief of the Baranavichy CPD Mr. Vilchkouski concerning the alleged simulation of the disease at the time of arrest.
The policemen answered all Charnavus' questions by saying that they either didn't know or didn't remember anything about his requests to call an ambulance. Lieutenant colonel Vilchkouski also spoke in a very quite voice and looked uncertain at the trial.
However, according to Mr. Charnavus, the judge “believed” the policeman that one could simulate a hypertensive crisis with a pressure of 250 to 130 can be simulated, and rejected the claim.
“Baranavichy court traditionally decides all disputes in favour of the state structures. However, I managed to call to the trial the deputy head of the CPD and two other high-rank police officials and made them justify their anti-human actions. I think that it was very unpleasant for them to do it, that's why they looked so uncanny. Maybe in the future they will be more attentive to the requests not only of disabled, but also of healthy people,” commented Mikalai Charnavus.
