Human rights activist Ales Bialiatski commented to RFE/RL on the results of the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded to 17-year-old Pakistani girl Malala Yusufzai and Indian advocate of children's rights Kailash Satyarthi.

"I absolutely support the
choice of the winnersfor the Nobel Peace Prize. The matter is that recently the peace prize has acquired a human rights context, while Malala and Satyarthi work on very important topics, relevant for many regions in the world. There are many countries where children actually survive. Their very life is in question, not to mention education. Malala is a symbol of a child seeking right to information, freedom of information. At the same time, human rights activists who deal with children's rights, do a very important thing, struggling for the right to life, for the right to education, for the right to be brought up and develop as free people.

It is
very good that they have received the award, and I'm very glad for them."

Ales Bialiatski, sentenced to 4.5 years in prison in 2011, was among the nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.
