Political prisoner Eduard Lobau marks 26th birthday

Eduard Lobau was born in Vilnius on December 1, 1988.

The political prisoner was sentenced to four years in a medium security correctional facility. The court decision was delivered by judge Alena Shylko in Minsk's Maskouki district court on March 24, 2011. The 22-year-old Young Front activist was found guilty of violating part 3 of article 339 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism).

Eduard Lobau and Young Front head Zmitser Dashkevich were detained in Minsk on December 18, 2010.

The arrest of Lobau and Dashkevich was a preventive measure organised by the security services ahead of the presidential elections that were held next day.

Eduard waited for the trial in the detention facility in Zhodzina and later, since March 2011, in a detention facility in Minsk.

He has been serving his term in correctional facility No. 22 in Ivatsevichy (Vouchyia Nory) since April 7, 2011. Eduard Lobau is to be released on December 18. He has already been put under preventive supervision.
