Young human rights activists joined the Letter Marathon

December 14 in Minsk, Belarusian youth human rights group (BYHRG) held an action on signing postcards for liberation of political prisoners in different countries and sending postcards to the places of their imprisonment.

Apart from petitions to the authorities of the US, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Greece and Uzbekistan, presented by Amnesty International within the framework of the Letter Marathon-2014, young activists signed posters for political prisoners of Belarus, Russia and Azerbaijan.

The organizers of the event expressed the hope that their accession to the international campaign would help to draw more attention to fates of people in different countries affected by repression, as well as to support them and express solidarity.

“Today, we have collectively reflected about Ihar Alinevich, Mikalai Dziadok, Mikalai Statkevich, Leyla and Arif Yunus, Rasul Jafarov, Raif Badawi, Chelsea Manning, Erkin Musaev and others. For us these are not just names, but eloquent life examples of talented human rights activists who have relentlessly defended human rights and freedom in the world. We have written them letters of support on postcards, because these are the people whose rights have been violated by their respective states, and now they experience hardships. A couple of warm worlds is what anyone can write. On the other hand, it is the most important think to make the prisoners understand that they aren't forgotten and have many adherents and followers,” commented a marathon particiant.

All in all, the activists signed more than 30 petitions and 40 postcards.

BYHRG proposes all concerned people to join the action of solidarity with arbitrary detained or imprisoned civil society activists and human rights activists by signing the appropriate petitions and sending postcards to political prisoners.
