The initiative of holding 18 pickets against the economic policy of the Belarusian authorities belongs to the local activists of the United Civil Party and adherents of democratic transformations in the country.

According to Chair of Brest regional UCP branch Uladzimir Vuyek, the reason for the pickets is another financial crisis in Belarus. Mr. Vuyek says that in such conditions people can demand resignation of the head of the state which bears personal responsibility for the current economic situation.

The applications for the pickets appointed on January 17 have been filed to Brest City Executive Committee. Among the sites for the mass events the applicants indicated both the ones that had been designated by the city authorities, as well as sites near large stores or in the central streets of Brest.
