Ukraine asks EU to recognize DNR and LNR terrorist organisations
The Verkhovna Rada asks the EU agencies to recognize the separatist “republics” of Donbas as terrorist organizations.
The deputies have supported the bill # 1736. It says about the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the European Parliament, the Parliament of the Council of Europe and other parliaments on the issue of the mass shooting of people near Volnovakha. 241 MPs supported that decision, while the minimum number of deputies needed to pass the bill is 226, RBK Ukraina informs.
In the appeal the Rada asks parliaments of the world:
- to continue the policy of sanctions against Russia as the aggressor nation,
- to put the DNR (Donetsk People's Republic) and LNR (Lugansk People's Republic) on the list of terrorist organisations,
- to continue the policy of non-recognition of Crimea,
- to continue joint counteraction to Russian propaganda.
We remind that on January 13, 2015 militants shelled the Ukrainian checkpoint near Volnovakha, where a passenger bus was at that moment. As a result, 11 persons were killed, 17 were injured. Later one more person died in a hospital.
The prosecutor’s office classified the shelling of the bus near Volnovakha as a terrorist act and opened a criminal prosecution.
As Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko stated, on January 15 the European Parliament will call upon the leadership of the European Union to put the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” and “Lugansk People’s Republic” on the list of terrorist organisations.
