Application for picket against corruption and increase in costs for public utilities filed in Baranavichy

February 3, 2015, Baranavičy individual entrepreneur Mikalai Charnavus filed an application to the local executive committee for holding a picket against corruption and increase in the costs for public utilities.

By means of his action the applicant intends to inform residents of Baranavichy about possible embezzlement by the city government agencies of the money allocated by the World Bank for environmental development of Baranavichy region. At the same time activist wants to protest against skyrocketing prices for utilities.

“I receive much information about an ineffective use, or, to put it simple, theft by the city officials and the administration of the state enterprise “Baranavichyvodakanal” of the means, issued by the World Bank as grants. That's why I'd like to draw the attention of the citizens to the problem of corruption among local officials and to appeal to law enforcement agencies so that would inspect the facts of corruption, drawn by the people,” stated Mr. Charnavus.

The activist intends to use the following posters during his one-man picket: "Stop the growth of prices for public utility services," "Stealing environmental investments by the state enterprise " Baranavichyvadakanal" is disgraceful!" He intends to hold the action in the old city park, officially designated as a place for mass events by the Baranavichy authorities.
