The nearest hearing concerning the Homel independent journalist will take place March 12.

Today, March 10, Larysa Shchyrakova has been summoned to the Rechytsa District Police Department and familiarized with two more violation reports, in which she is charged with working as a journalist for a foreign media in the absence of an accreditation with the Belarusian MFA.

The police accuse the journalist of violating Article 22.9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (violation of the order of production of mass media). She will be tried at 12 a.m. at the Tsentralny District Court of Homel.

The maximal penalty faced by the journalist on each administrative case is a fine of 9 mln rubles. Larysa Shchyrakova believes she hasn't violated any laws, as the right to receive and impart information is guaranteed by the Constitution.

Last year the police initiated at least 14 administrative cases against journalists, accusing them of collaboration with foreign mass media without appropriate accreditation. This year, three trials for violating Article 22.9 of the CAO have taken place.
