EU flags seized from Brest activist on border
As charter97.org learnt, the opposition activist was travelling by bus from Warsaw to Minsk. Andrei Sharenda got detained on the Belarusian border at 2 a.m. The activist was searched, and seven EU flags were found on him. Head of the customs department Viachaslau Panasiuk, who conducted the search together with captain Sharko from military base No.2187, took a decision to seize the flags “for an examination”.
Andrei Sharenda was set free several hours later. He thinks he was put on the blacklist of activists subject to searches on state borders.
“The so called elections are coming soon. The authorities want to prevent any political activity. Flags of the European Union are in fact banned in our country. It's not a surprise that they were seized,” Andrei Sharenda said.
