Application for May Day picket filed in Baranavičy
April 14, the leader of the Baranavičy organization of the Independent Trade Union of Radio Electronic Industry Ryhor Hryk filed an appeal for holding a picket on May 1. The activist states that the action will be directly related to the protection of labor, social and political rights of the citizens of Belarus.
“We want to maintain the tradition of the working class for defending the right to stable employment, decent work and wages, at the International Workers' Day. At present, the state fails to execute its responsibilities before its own people: the wages are falling, the prises are rising, and we want to tell about this, first of all to the authorities. At the same time, we intend to protest against the adoption of Decree №3 «On prevention of social dependency" and will demand its abolition, as in normal countries the state puts taxes on the rich, not on the poor and unemployed,” stated Mr. Hryk.
The planned number of the picket participants is about 15 people. It's worth adding that for the last ten years Baranavičy authorities have been dismissing all applications for mass events.
